Mondragon Excels, But Dirty Reds Win
MSL Greenville designated hitter José Mondragon had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Mondragon was 4 for 4 with a home run, a double, and 2 singles. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3, even as MSL San Mateo beat the 84s, 8-7. The winner in relief was Po-fu Yuan. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 2.1 innings. He now owns a record of 1-0. With the win, MSL San Mateo goes to 6-6, while the 84s fall to 3-9.

MSL San Mateo used a clutch hit from Alfonso Gómez to snatch the win. The first baseman belted a 2-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Dirty Reds ahead, 8-7. It was his only hit, but it was huge.

"It was offense that won us the game," said winning manager Andrés Ventura.
