The Ellesmere Island Snowpeople took Long Island pitcher Vince Barnard's best shot and still were able to claim a win at The Igloo. The final score had Ellesmere Island getting past the Ducks, 3-2. Barnard went 5.1 innings and allowed no runs, striking out 8. Ellesmere Island reliever Francisco Cortés was the winner. His record is now 3-6. The losing pitcher was Jussi-Pekka Hostikka. The triumph puts Ellesmere Island at 32-25 for the season.
The game was decided with one out in the bottom of the ninth. With Ellesmere Island trailing 2-1, Jesús Vázquez hit a cutter from Jussi-Pekka Hostikka to right for a 2-run single. Just like that, the Snowpeople had a walk-off win.
"We were in it," said Long Island manager Mike Simpson. "We just didn't score enough runs."
