The Maine Sea Dogs defeated the Amarillo Warheads, 8-5, in USSL Low A action at Ballpark of Henderson. Maine pitcher Werner Payne had a standout performance. The win belongs to Andrew Callahan in relief. His record improves to 5-2. Richard Lacroix took the loss for Amarillo. Wes Bailey was called on to finish, recording his 22nd save.
This game was not decided until Bill Benson came to bat in the top of the ninth. With the bases loaded and one out, the Maine right fielder got hit by a pitch, driving in 1 run. The Sea Dogs took the lead, 5-4.
"We need to keep playing good baseball," Benson told the Maine Daily.
Maine occupies 6th place in the Silver Low A at 42-43.
