The Amarillo Warheads did just enough to sneak past the Tulsa Otters, 3-2, at Ballpark of Henderson. Amarillo pitcher Anastasio Méndez, in particular, had a standout performance. Viljami Sala earned the win after being called from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed 2 runs on 3 hits in 2.1 innings. He upped his record to 1-3. António Gómez closed it out for his 9th save.
The game was at a stalemate until center fielder Rickey Monroe came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Tulsa pitcher Marcus Weaver, he hit a 1-1 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Amarillo on top, 3-2.
"Enjoyed this one," Méndez told the Amarillo News. "But it's back to work tomorrow."
After today's action, Amarillo sits at 23-32, while Tulsa falls to 22-33.
