Music Sink Baby Lakers, 7-5
|
The Memphis Music topped the Bompton Baby Lakers, 7-5, the lion's share of the credit going to right fielder Hughie Dook. On the day, Dook went 2 for 4 with 2 home runs for the Music. Memphis reliever Greg Hawkins was the winner. His record is now 1-0. The losing pitcher was Juan Torres. With the loss, Bompton drops to 0-3.
Memphis used the timely hitting of Amos Burton to seize the win. The designated hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Music on top, 6-5. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
"Say want you want about this team, they play nine innings hard," said Memphis manager Tom Christensen.
