Lake Erie Arryns starter Bob Porter was in fine form against the Eugene Vandals at Arryns Ballpark, leading his team to a win, 2-1. The 'W' lifts Lake Erie's record to 51-45.

The Vandals had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Arryns going into the bottom of the sixth inning. That changed quickly when the 23-year old shortstop Nelson Fernández came to the plate. Fernández hit a solo home run on a 2-0 fastball from Eugene hurler Martín Ávila. It was Fernández's 33rd home run of the year.

"I tell our guys all the time, 'Every pitch is the right pitch if you put it in the right place, you believe in it and have conviction,'" Lake Erie manager Sammy Bannatyne said.
