Hobeaus Pull Off Thrilling 3-0 Win in Extras
|
Huntington wasted an exceptional performance by pitcher Sebastian Brown, falling to the Smoky Mountain Hobeaus, 3-0. Brown threw 7.0 innings of shutout ball for the losing team. Fernando Guerrero earned the save for Smoky Mountain, his 1st. Smoky Mountain is 9th in the Premier A with a record of 34-50.
Smoky Mountain used a clutch hit from Alec Clay to get the win. The designated hitter drilled a 3-run home run in the top of the 12th inning to put the Hobeaus ahead, 3-0. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
During his postgame press conference, Hobeaus manager Gilberto Chávez told reporters that he expected a tight game from the get-go. "This had the potential to go down to the wire, and it certainly didn't disappoint," he said, later quipping, "it might've been a little less nerve-racking if I had been watching the game from my couch!"
