The Laredo Hawks had to overcome a good performance from South Beach pitcher Gustavo Carrillo to claim a 2-0 win at Hawks Field. Carrillo went 6.2 innings and allowed no runs. Laredo reliever Marcel Traas was the winner. His record is now 2-0. The losing pitcher was Paul Hays. The 7th-place Hawks have won 4 straight.

A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. In the bottom of the eighth, with the game tied, Yosai Hayagawa was at the plate when Laredo scored 2 on an error. The miscue enabled the Hawks to go in front, 2-0.

Hayagawa attributed the win to "energy and focus on the part of everyone."
