Arryns Sneak By Crawdads, 9-8
|
The Lake Erie Arryns relied on the hitting of shortstop Nelson Fernández to stop the Cut Off Crawdads, 9-8. For the game, Fernández went 2-5 with a home run. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. Lake Erie reliever Kuniaki Ishikawa was the winner. His record is now 2-0. Jack MacAlonie took the loss. With the win, Lake Erie has a record of 22-25. Cut Off falls to 29-18.
Lake Erie used the timely hitting of Paul Brown to seize the win. The center fielder stroked a 2-run single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Arryns on top, 9-8. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
Arryns manager Sammy Bannatyne wasn't all too pleased, despite the win, telling reporters that the performance highlighted some clear areas for improvement moving forward. He refused to be more specific, however. "I'm not gonna publicize our weaknesses," he said. "That stuff stays in the clubhouse."
