The Delmarva Gallos beat the Kingston Mangos, 4-1, at Mango Yard. Starting pitcher Michael Sawyer was a big reason why. He held his opponent in check all game. Sawyer, now 1-0, was the winner. In 6 innings, he gave up 2 hits, while striking out 4, walking 2, and allowing 1 run.

Delmarva needed the clutch hitting of Dennis Veeneman to notch the win. The first baseman hammered a 2-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Gallos on top, 4-1. For the game, Veeneman had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.

"I tried to mix it up, keep them off balance," said Sawyer.
