|
The 5-3 Columbia win over Yucca Valley was due largely to Felipe Torres. The River Rats center fielder was 2 for 4 with a home run and a triple, while adding 5 RBI and scoring once. Bob O'Slattery got the win, improving to 13-1. He worked 5.1 innings, giving up no runs on 3 hits, while striking out 5 and walking 4. Carlos Maldonado was credited with the save for Columbia, his 33rd of the season.
Columbia took a 5-0 lead on Torres's 8th home run of the season. The grand slam home run, which he hit off Robby Sloan in the bottom of the sixth, propelled Columbia to the win.
"It was a good effort all around," said Torres.
At 60-32, the River Rats have a slim two-game lead in the Silver A.
