Matlacha Manatees starter Alfredo Contreras hurled his team past the Yucca Valley Yellows, 5-1. Contreras, now 10-3, was the winner. In 5.2 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 3, walking 1, and allowing 1 run. Matlacha, at 56-32, occupies second place in the Silver A.
Matlacha used the bat of Jorge Reyes to capture the win. The third baseman jacked a 2-run home run in the top of the fourth inning to put the Manatees ahead, 2-0. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a dandy.
"Winning is the only thing that really matters," Reyes told the Matlacha Chronicle. "If you can win without even breaking a sweat, more power to you."
