River Rats Snatch Late Win
|
Columbia and Matlacha played a hard-fought contest.
Bob O'Slattery never let Matlacha get something going. The Columbia right-hander commanded his cutter in pitching the River Rats to a 3-1 win. The winner in relief was Viriato Hembise. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 1.2 innings. He now owns a record of 4-0. Carlos Maldonado collected save number 31.
Making an impact for Columbia was second baseman Dylan Briggs. He drilled a run-scoring single in the top of the fifth. For the game, Briggs went 1 for 3 with 2 walks.
Briggs called the win "a team effort."
The River Rats improved to 56-31.
