Both teams had their chances, but the Matlacha Manatees eventually prevailed.
In a low-scoring affair between the Matlacha Manatees and the Kingston Mangos, pitcher Silas Brown was the difference between victory and defeat. The Matlacha right-hander earned accolades in the 3-2 Manatees win. Soh Oike came out of the bullpen to earn the win. The left-hander allowed 1 run on 1 hit in 2 innings. His record now stands at 5-0. Victor Jones got the save, the 33rd for him this season.
Matlacha needed the clutch hitting of Koos van den Heuvel to notch the win. The designated hitter hammered a solo home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Manatees on top, 3-2. For the game, van den Heuvel had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"I feel honored to be a part of this team," said Brown.
With the win, Matlacha has a record of 54-29. Kingston falls to 45-38.
