Manatees Bump Off Tula, 2-1

The Matlacha Manatees eked out a 2-1 win versus the Chicago Tula at Fuller Park. Nobody did more than pitcher Alfredo Contreras. He was terrific. Contreras, now 7-3, was the winner. In 5.1 innings, he gave up 3 hits, while striking out 4, walking 2, and allowing 1 run. Victor Jones got the save, the 30th for him this season.
The Manatees got a big boost from designated hitter Don Turner who had a run-scoring ground out in the bottom of the third inning off Tula hurler Eric Riley. It was his 19th RBI of the season and put Matlacha on top, 1-0.
"Good pitching, clutch hitting," said Matlacha skipper José Gato. "I can't complain."
Matlacha has now won 5 in a row.
