Willard Excels, But River Rats Win
|
The Columbia River Rats had to overcome a big game from Matlacha center fielder Erik Willard to leave Columbia Stadium with a victory. And they did, winning 9-4. Willard hit 3 home runs. He drove in 4 runs and scored three times. Henry Tucker got the win, improving to 7-4. He held the Manatees to 3 runs on 6 hits over 6 innings, while striking out 6 and walking 0. The 'W' lifts Columbia's record to 42-24.
Early in the game, right fielder John Weber had a 2-run double for Columbia. It was his 4th double of the season and put the River Rats on top, 2-1.
"We'd like to put some distance between ourselves and the rest of the division," said Weber.
