Manatees Deal Gallos 3-0 Setback
|
The Delmarva Gallos and Matlacha Manatees were greeted by an enthusiastic crowd.
The Matlacha Manatees got a magnificent effort from pitcher Ijsbert Pelikaan, who kept Delmarva hitters in check en route to a 3-0 Manatees win at Fuller Park. Pelikaan, now 1-0, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 2, walking 1, and allowing no runs. Victor Jones was called on to finish, recording his 12th save.
Had John Maxwell not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Maxwell hit a bases-clearing double. That made the score 3-0, in favor of the Manatees.
Maxwell attributed the win to "energy and focus on the part of everyone."
Matlacha is second in the Silver A with a record of 18-11.
