Rails Saddle Thunder with 5-1 Loss
|
The Richland Rails went home winners at Rails Ballpark, thanks in large part to starter Elroy Mastenbroek. Mastenbroek stifled the St. Petersburg Thunder, enabling Richland to grab the 5-1 win. With the win, Richland has a record of 45-54. St. Petersburg falls to 46-53.
The Thunder had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Rails going into the bottom of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the 24-year old shortstop Willie Davidson came to the plate. Davidson hit a solo home run on a full count fastball from St. Petersburg hurler Iván Ferreira. It was Davidson's 15th home run of the year.
"This level of focus will win us a lot of ballgames," Mastenbroek said after the game.
