Thunder Trip Rails, 3-1, in Extra Innings
|
Pitching was the name of the game in a tight contest between the St. Petersburg Thunder and the Richland Rails. St. Petersburg won it, 3-1. St. Petersburg starter Cliff Scarlett was in command. The winner in relief was Ánibal Maes. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 2 innings. He now owns a record of 1-0. The 5th-place Thunder are now 46-52, the Rails 44-54.
St. Petersburg used the timely hitting of Anastasio Reyes to seize the win. The designated hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the 17th inning to put the Thunder on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in 8 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"Our team showed some resilience," said Reyes.
