Highlanders Turn Away Cangrejos Fantasmas, 2-0
|
The Asheville Highlanders had to overcome a good performance from Chesapeake pitcher Walt Middleton to claim a 2-0 win at Asheville Park. Middleton went 8 innings and allowed 2 runs. Asheville reliever Scotty Mays picked up the win to move to 4-0. Walt Middleton suffered the loss. The victory gives the Highlanders a record of 44-27.
The Highlanders got an important contribution from right fielder Joren van Schie, who in the bottom of the fifth knocked a 3-1 fastball into right for a solo home run. It was his 3rd home run of the season and put the Highlanders ahead, 2-0.
"Hustle and hard work is a big part of our success," said van Schie. "Those qualities define our team."
