Thrilling Victory Pushes Atoms Win Streak to 5
|
Barton Springs got a terrific performance from pitcher Alan Sanderson, but it wasn't enough to beat the Bethesda Atoms. Bethesda won the Blues Field contest, 3-1. Sanderson threw 7.0 innings of 3-hit ball for the losing team. Julián Figueroa came out of the bullpen to earn the win. The left-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 1.2 innings. His record now stands at 2-7. The Atoms, now 30-37, have won 5 in a row.
The game was at a stalemate until center fielder Bill Miller came to bat in the top of the 11th. Facing Barton Springs pitcher Sun-ho Yang, he hit a 0-1 splitter for a 2-run single. It was a game-changer, putting Bethesda on top, 3-1.
"One win at a time, one game at a time. We try not to get too far ahead of ourselves," Miller told the Bethesda Citizen.
