Highlanders Win, 3-2, in Extra Frames

The Asheville Highlanders took Bethesda pitcher Carlos Gómez's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Asheville Park. The final score had Asheville getting past the Atoms, 3-2. Gómez went 7 innings and allowed 2 runs, striking out 6. Asheville reliever Martín Rivera got the win, raising his record to 2-1. Paul Glover was tagged with the loss. The Highlanders now have a mark of 18-13.
With the game on the line, Dwayne Foll came to bat in the bottom of the tenth. And the Asheville right fielder came through, cracking a run-scoring single off Jorge Quiñonez, the Bethesda pitcher.
"It was a test of wills," said Don Thomas, the Asheville skipper. "I'm glad we came out of it with a win."
