Thunder Edge Past Dolphins, 2-1

St. Petersburg got a strong outing from Randy Crane as the Thunder defeated the Pine Island Dolphins, 2-1, at Baby Thunder Dome. St. Petersburg reliever Juan López picked up the win, upping his record to 1-1. Luke Robb shouldered the loss. Ed Wheeler locked down his 2nd save.
The game was at a stalemate until first baseman Hanskarl Hümmel came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Pine Island pitcher Jin Chang, he hit a first pitch curveball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting St. Petersburg on top, 2-1.
"Randy -- his tempo and rhythm were good," said Thunder manager Emílio Sáenz. "He was the key to us winning."
St. Petersburg is off to a hot start at 5-2.
