The Barton Springs Blues picked up a win at Asheville Park, courtesy of Herman Clayton. The right-hander helped his team stop the Asheville Highlanders, 2-1. Clayton, now 1-0, was the winner. In 7.1 innings, he gave up 8 hits, while striking out 2, walking 0, and allowing 1 run. With the loss, Asheville falls to 2-3.
With runs few and far between, the Blues had to seize their opportunities when they came. One of the most important chances for Barton Springs came in the top of the third inning, when designated hitter Wilton Meadows delivered a run-scoring single. The single was hit off Anthony Patterson and made the score 2-1, Blues. Meadows went 2 for 3 with 2 singles.
"Runs were at a premium," said Barton Springs manager Joe Kehoe.
