Sixshooters Edge Marquette in Pitching Duel
|
The Marquette Miners got a superb performance from pitcher George Gross, but the Westwood Sixshooters still won the game, 1-0. Gross threw 5.0 innings of 3-hit ball. Earning his 1st save for Westwood was Dave Carroll. The Sixshooters are off to an underwhelming start as they look to defend their championship, notching only their 7th win in 17 games.
In the bottom of the first, Westwood third baseman Emanuel Koudstaal had a productive at-bat. With a runner on 2nd and two out, Koudstaal stroked a run-scoring single to right. It made the score 1-0, Westwood. For the game, he went 3-4 with 3 singles.
"Honestly, I'm not frustrated," said Marquette manager Jeremy Dennis. "The effort was great."
