Hunter Shuts Down Dirty Reds, 1-0
|
The San Mateo Dirty Reds had no answer today for Pittsburgh Kingfishers pitcher Todd Hunter. They failed to score a single run against him, losing 1-0. San Mateo managed only 3 hits off Hunter, who had 6 strikeouts.
The extraordinarily popular Hunter got a standing ovation from the hometown crowd as he left the field, the applause continuing until he returned from the dugout to tip his cap to the crowd.
"Kingfishers fans are the best fans, in my opinion," he said. "It's a great feeling to throw a shutout under any circumstances but to do it with the crowd behind you like that is just incredible."
This year Hunter has a 4-8 mark in 14 starts with a 3.14 ERA. He has given up 84 hits in 97.1 innings, struck out 82 and issued 15 walks. Opposing clubs have compiled a .230 batting average against him.
