Liam Bane relied on excellent pitch selection and pinpoint control to hold Bakersfield hitless in a 2-0 win at Sea World today.

"Nobody goes out to pitch a no-hitter," he said later. "We just go out and try to get a win. A 10-9 win is better than a 1-0 loss. My pitching buddies might not be too happy giving up nine runs but a win is a win. The key to it today was I mixed my pitches well. I kept the Nobles off balance and guessing the whole game."

The 35-year-old starter rung up 5 strikeouts and 5 walks in whipping the Nobles.

"When a guy is throwing strikes the way he was and is locating well, it is going to be a long day for any club," Bakersfield skipper Jesús Román said.

Bane has made 6 starts, tossed 60.2 innings, struck out 56 batters and walked 17. His record is 5-2 with a 2.23 ERA and he has limited other teams to a .171 batting average.
