Squirrel Monkeys Topple Rainbeaus, 5-2
|
Squirrel Monkeys right fielder Iván Marrero put his stamp on his team's 5-2 win over the Kansas Rainbeaus. Marrero went 2 for 4 with 2 home runs and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice for Syracuse in the contest. The winner was Dudley Malone, who threw 109 pitches over 7.1 innings. The left-hander was charged with 2 runs on 7 hits. Thomas Sangrey earned the save, his 19th, for the Squirrel Monkeys.
In the top of the third of a scoreless game, Marrero hit a 2-run home run to put his team ahead.
"We can always improve and get better, but we're feeling confident after that win," said Marrero.
With the win, the Squirrel Monkeys improved to 38-40.
