Monsters Stop Starks, 6-1
|
Syracuse had no answer for Monongahela Monsters starter Jack Herer, who flummoxed Starks hitters as the Monsters cruised to victory, 6-1. Herer went 5.1 innings to notch the win. He scattered 3 hits, walked 0, and struck out 6. His record improves to 2-2. Todd Dean was credited with the save for Monongahela, his 1st of the season.
Monongahela used the bat of Jesús Cortéz to capture the win. The right fielder jacked a grand slam home run in the top of the first inning to put the Monsters ahead, 6-0. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a dandy.
"Big team win," Cortéz said later.
The Monsters sit in 4th place in the Premier AAA with a record of 36-36.
