Squirrel Monkeys Lose Late, 8-4
|
The Monongahela Monsters grabbed a win, 8-4, over the Syracuse Squirrel Monkeys at The Zoo in Syracuse. Monongahela second baseman Dave Montés went 1 for 3 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2. The Monsters move to 34-34 with the win, while the Squirrel Monkeys drop to 34-34.
Monongahela used the timely hitting of Mike Holmes to seize the win. The center fielder stroked a 2-run single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Monsters on top, 5-3. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"The boys were really swinging the bats today," winning manager Sancho Tornero said.
