Baton Rouge Gets 2-1 Win
|
Wichita Field was the site of a true pitchers' duel.
In a tight game between the Kansas Rainbeaus and the Baton Rouge Brass, nobody was more important for the winners than Pancho Cháves. Cháves was masterful in the 2-1 win. Shintaro Oyama nailed down his 8th save.
Tied up with the Rainbeaus in the top of the fifth inning, the Brass got a boost from designated hitter Andrés Torres. With a runner on 2nd, Torres saw a 2-0 fastball from Brenden Cleverdon and hit a run-scoring single to break the stalemate and put Baton Rouge on top, 2-1.
"I tell our guys all the time, 'Every pitch is the right pitch if you put it in the right place, you believe in it and have conviction,'" Baton Rouge manager Daniel Edwards said.
The Brass, at 37-26, sit in first place in the Premier AAA.
