Monongahela pitcher Martin Elzey gave the Starks all they could handle, but in the end, Syracuse left Timber Hawks Ballpark with a win, 2-0. Elzey allowed 2 runs on 5 hits over 7.2 innings. The win puts the Starks at 20-37, while the Monsters drop to 27-30.

Syracuse used the timely hitting of Silvio Capitanio to capture the win. The left fielder stroked a 2-run double in the top of the eighth inning to put the Starks on top, 2-0. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but he made it count.

"I know we have our doubters," said Monongahela manager Sancho Tornero. "But I still have high hopes for this team."
