The Monongahela Monsters got a stellar effort from pitcher Martin Elzey, helping Monongahela score a win over the visiting Kansas Rainbeaus, 2-0. Elzey, now 2-0, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 4, walking 4, and allowing no runs. Kirby Perkins finished to wrap up his 8th save.

The Rainbeaus had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Monsters going into the bottom of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the 28-year old first baseman Martín Flores came to the plate. Flores hit a run-scoring double on a 2-2 fastball from Kansas hurler Rich Frost. It was Flores's 6th double of the year.

"Win or lose, we pick each other up in this clubhouse," Elzey told the Monongahela Times.

At 23-24, the Monsters find themselves in 8th place in the Premier AAA.
