Lake Monsters Win, 3-1, at Calgary
|
Lynx Stadium was the site of a tense game between the Calgary Lynx and Vermont Lake Monsters.
The Vermont Lake Monsters had to overcome a good performance from Calgary pitcher Alfredo Morales to claim a 3-1 win at Lynx Stadium. Morales went 6.1 innings and allowed no runs. Wulf Hinkamp, the winning pitcher, is now 5-5. He went 6.1 innings, allowing 1 run on 5 hits, while fanning 5 and walking 3. José Salinas notched his 4th save in 4 chances.
Vermont used the timely hitting of Leonard Saunders to capture the win. The center fielder stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the seventh inning to put the Lake Monsters on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but he made it count.
"At the end of the day, it's always about your starting pitcher," said Vermont skipper Dylan Smith.
With the victory, the Lake Monsters upped their record to 42-39.
