Greg King could take little solace in pitching a good game. The fact is his Bakersfield Nobles lost, dropping a 2-1 decision to the Monongahela Monsters at Jerome Grounds. Monongahela pitcher Ángel Santingo got the win. He's now 1-0. Greg King was tagged with the loss. Luis Boll picked up the save, his 3rd.
Monongahela used the timely hitting of Max Rendell to capture the win. The left fielder socked a 2-run home run in the top of the sixth inning to put the Monsters ahead, 2-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a big one.
"There are no moral victories," said losing manager Jesús Román.
The Monsters improved to 9-14.
