Pride Handled by Vermont, 8-3
|
The Vermont Lake Monsters trumped the Hartford Pride, 8-3, at Pride Park. Vermont first baseman Dave Johns was terrific. He was 2-4 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. The winner was Andrew Shoemaker, who threw 101 pitches over 5 innings. The right-hander was charged with 3 runs on 7 hits. With the win, Vermont pushed its record to 22-20.
Vermont used a timely hit from Clarence Hogan to get the win. The second baseman delivered a 2-run triple in the top of the eighth inning to put the Lake Monsters on top, 6-3. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"If the personal accolades come, so be it," said Hogan. "I just want to win ballgames."
