Monsters Come Back Late to Top Squirrel Monkeys, 4-3
|
Syracuse got a terrific performance from pitcher Steve Sanford, but it wasn't enough to beat the Monongahela Monsters. Monongahela won the The Zoo in Syracuse contest, 4-3. Sanford threw 7.1 innings of 1-hit ball for the losing team. Eugene Kelly notched the win in relief. The left-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2 innings. His record now sits at 1-1. The victory makes Monongahela 5-7.
It could have been a different outcome for Monongahela, had it not been for Piedade Regueir, the speedster . Regueir contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth inning to put Monongahela up, 4-3.
"Win or lose, we always try to grind it out and stay even-keeled," Regueir said in reaction to the win.
