Squirrel Monkeys Beat Monsters, 6-2
|
Syracuse Squirrel Monkeys starter Ronald Love turned in an exceptional performance against the Monongahela Monsters at The Zoo in Syracuse, resulting in a Syracuse win, 6-2. In 7.1 innings, Love surrendered 6 hits, while striking out 5 and walking 1. He allowed 2 runs. Thomas Sangrey earned the save, his 5th, for the Squirrel Monkeys.
The Monsters had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Squirrel Monkeys going into the bottom of the sixth inning. That changed quickly when the slugging right fielder Martín Pliego came to the plate. Pliego hit a grand slam home run on a 1-1 sinker from Monongahela hurler Brian Folger. It was Pliego's 1st home run of the year.
"It feels good to get this one," Love told the Syracuse Times.
With the loss, Monongahela is 4-7.
