Late Magic Gets Port Royal 5-3 Win
|
Plymouth Quarry was the site of the home opener for the Plymouth Rocks. The contest featured a prime matchup between Gerry Wells of the visiting Port Royal Disaster and Gudrat Tumanov of the Rocks. The final score was 5-3, the Disaster getting the win. Gudrat Tumanov turned in the best performance. Reliever Larry Wilson picked up the win. His record improves to 1-0. Ramón Echevarría took the loss.
Port Royal used the timely hitting of Frank Rodríguez to seize the win. The pinch hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Disaster on top, 4-3. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
"This was a good win," said Rodríguez.
