Long Island and St. Louis played a hard-fought contest.
Long Island starter Manuel Martínez put a stranglehold on the St. Louis offense. The left-hander had complete command of his cutter in leading the Lighthouse to a 2-1 win. Christopher Tracy was credited with the save for Long Island, his 5th of the season.
Runs were few and far between in this one. So, Colton Donnelly's at-bat with one out in the top of the eighth was crucial. The Long Island second baseman reached on an error by the 1B, driving in 1 run, to give his team a 2-1 lead.
Afterward, Lighthouse manager Michael Esposito was ebullient. "That was a fun game to coach," he told a group of reporters, adding, "I hope it was just as fun to watch."
Long Island has a record of 5-6.
