Oaks Get Past Las Vegas for 5-4 Win
The Oakland Oaks withstood an impressive performance by Las Vegas catcher José Avilés to defeat the Flamingos, 5-4, at The Strip. Avilés was 2 for 4 with a home run, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Andy Dundee came out of the bullpen to earn the win. The left-hander allowed 1 run on 3 hits in 2.1 innings. His record now stands at 6-4. The Oaks lead the Silver League by 2 games.

Oakland needed the clutch hitting of Tom Bleasdale to notch the win. The designated hitter hammered a 2-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Oaks on top, 5-4. For the game, Bleasdale had 1 home run and 1 single in 5 at-bats.

"We had the game right there for the taking," said Las Vegas manager Tom Williams. "But we decided not to take it."
