Ibáñez Rips 3 HR Thursday, July 14th , 2050 South Beach Blaze left fielder Gustavo Ibáñez put on a dazzling display of power today at The Cave at Levittown against the Levittown Blue Dragons. In the 9-5 Blaze victory Ibáñez penned his name into the record books, slamming a trio of home runs in one of baseball's finest single-day efforts. "He can hit them out anywhere, right, center, left, it doesn't matter," Levittown manager Frank Jackson said. "He's super strong and stays on the ball so well." Along with his three home runs, the 22-year-old had 3 hits in 5 at-bats, 6 RBIs and 3 runs scored. "Life will always throw you curves, just keep fouling them off," Ibáñez said after the game, when asked about his hitting philosophy. "The right pitch will come, and when it does, be prepared to run the bases. Or trot around them, like I did today." Gustavo Ibáñez hit a solo-shot off Roger Raper in the 2nd, hit a three-run home run off Roger Raper in the 3rd, struck out in the 4th, hit a two-run home run off Mario Rodríguez in the 7th and struck out in the 9th. So far this season Ibáñez is hitting .196 with 6 home runs, 15 RBIs and 11 runs scored. He has 11 hits in 56 at-bats and a .328 OBP. |
