The 23-year-old rookie on the mound turned out to be the least of the Salt Lake City Buzz worries.

Giving a high-pressure playoff start to youngster Roberto Chaumond seemed like a risky move for the Buzz, but it was one of the few things that went right at Spirits Stadium today. Chaumond tossed 7 solid innings, but it was all for naught after Salt Lake City dropped a 4-2 decision. With the win, Alaskan took a 1-0 lead in the best-of-3 PL AAA Championship.

John Simpson, the 28-year old third baseman , had a direct impact on the outcome. Simpson contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the fifth inning to put Alaskan up, 4-2.

"This level of focus will win us a lot of ballgames," Simpson said after the game.

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Spirits Stadium in Salt Lake City.
