Sea Dogs Sneak By Beavers, 5-4
|
The Northwest Territory Beavers got a superb performance from pitcher Jim Smith. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Maine. The Sea Dogs won the game, 5-4. Smith threw 6.0 innings allowing 3 runs. Wes Bailey earned the save for Maine, his 13th of the year. With the win over Northwest Territory, the Sea Dogs improved to 42-44.
Had Su-shun Hung not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Hung hit a run-scoring double. That made the score 5-4, in favor of the Sea Dogs.
"You get some opportunities, you better take advantage of them," said Northwest Territory manager Robert Acker.
