Franklin picked up a win at The Igloo, bumping off the Ellesmere Island Snowpeople, 8-5. Pitcher Benny Small was a major reason the Fire emerged victorious. Small went 6.2 innings to notch the win. He scattered 6 hits, walked 2, and struck out 5. His record improves to 1-2. Larry Lyons earned the save, his 1st, for the Fire.
Franklin relied on the hitting of Roberto Rojas to pick up the win. The center fielder ripped a bases-clearing triple in the top of the second inning to put the Fire on top, 3-2. For the game, Rojas had 1 triple and 1 single in 5 at-bats.
"I've been criticized for being a slacker, but the one thing I do care about is winning," Rojas told the Franklin Today.
Franklin is now 20-28, Ellesmere Island 23-25.
