Loss Spoils Fine Performance by Calderón
|
The Bompton Baby Lakers and Surprise Shockers obliged fans hoping for an exciting game.
The Bompton Baby Lakers outlasted Ernesto Calderón and the Surprise Shockers, 8-7. Calderón was impressive in the loss. The Surprise first baseman hit 2 home runs, while adding 5 RBI and scoring twice. Bompton pitcher Leon Mannini got the win, upping his record to 1-0. Barney Arrington got the loss. Getting the save was Jonathan Alexander, his 16th.
The Baby Lakers got an important contribution from shortstop Ed Lewis, who in the bottom of the fourth knocked a 2-2 changeup into left for a bases-clearing double. It was his 16th double of the season and put the Baby Lakers ahead, 7-4.
"We were the better team today. Maybe that won't be the case next game, but we'll enjoy it for now," Lewis told the Bompton Daily News.
The 7th-place Baby Lakers sport a record of 41-52.
