Warheads Top Baby Lakers, 6-5
|
Amarillo rode a decent outing from starter Seung-gwan Kim to victory over the Bompton Baby Lakers. The final score was 6-5. The winning pitcher was Kim, now 2-4. He tossed 5 innings of 3-hit ball, while walking 1 and fanning 5. Ed Wheeler got the save, the 11th for him this season.
In the bottom of the fifth, with Amarillo leading 4-0, Wayne Schmidt hit a cutter from Sandro Gonzáles for a 2-run single, giving the Warheads the lead, 6-0.
"This isn't football or hockey where you can overwhelm your opponents," Schmidt told the Amarillo Chronicle. "Everyone gets 27 outs and we happened to make the most of them."
Amarillo now sits in third place in the Silver Low A at 18-12.
