Eugene Topples Chicago, 4-1
|
Eugene starter Colm Drewitt put a stranglehold on the Chicago offense. The left-hander had complete command of his curveball in leading the Vandals to a 4-1 win. The win belongs to Hae-young Kim in relief. His record improves to 1-1. José Mercado took the loss for Chicago. Dan Roberts got the save, the 6th for him this season.
The Vandals got a big hit from designated hitter Joaquín Díaz. In the bottom of the sixth, Díaz smacked a bases-clearing double off Chicago pitcher António Salazar. It was his 21st double of the season. Suddenly, the Vandals were ahead, 3-1.
"I had everything working," said Drewitt.
With the win, Eugene is 24-72.
