Vandals Lose Late, 6-1
|
The Eugene Vandals got a sterling performance from pitcher Seung-gwan Kim, but the Idaho Falls Chukars still prevailed, 6-1. Kim threw 5.1 innings of shutout ball. Idaho Falls reliever Karsten Lips was the winner. His record is now 5-1. The losing pitcher was Sjaak Kiene. The loss makes Eugene 20-68.
Had Colm Reyes not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 2nd, Reyes hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 2-1, in favor of the Chukars.
Reyes called the win "a team effort."
