Chukars Dump Hobeaus, 1-0
|
The Idaho Falls Chukars beat the Smoky Mountain Hobeaus, 1-0. Idaho Falls pitcher and Guadalajara, Mexico, native Ricardo Cortéz led the way. In 5 innings, Cortéz surrendered 3 hits, while striking out 5 and walking 0. He allowed no runs. Frank Smith earned the save for Idaho Falls, his 22nd of the year.
Chris Thompson drove in one run for Idaho Falls. The 23-year old center fielder had a key at-bat in the bottom of the fifth. With no one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 0-0 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Ricardo Romo. It was his 31st RBI of the season.
"I tell our guys all the time, 'Every pitch is the right pitch if you put it in the right place, you believe in it and have conviction,'" Idaho Falls manager Fernando Mendoza said.
The Chukars' win now puts them at 43-41.
